HOW TEXAS CITIES ARE COMBATING CLIMATE CHANGE

Cities are a key contributor to climate change as transportation, buildings and power plants are major sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Recently, stronger hurricanes and subfreezing temperatures have had costly impacts on cities' services, infrastructure, housing and health.

What role do Texas cities play in combating climate change? Join The Texas Tribune for a live interview with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, chair of the Climate Mayors coalition, conducted by the Tribune’s environment reporter, Erin Douglas.

Event Details

On Jan. 28, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner was named chair of Climate Mayors, a national coalition of 474 U.S. mayors advocating for climate policy changes. Turner, who has served as mayor of the largest city in Texas and the fourth-largest in the nation during storms including Hurricane Harvey, will help mobilize climate-forward actions taken at the local level in this role.

Join The Texas Tribune at noon Central on Thursday, March 11, for a conversation between Turner and the Tribune’s environment reporter, Erin Douglas. They’ll discuss the role that cities play in combating climate change and preparing for climate emergencies. The conversation will also be available to watch here afterward.
